FAQs

Many of your questions will be answered in our Conditions of Membership.

Some other things you need to know…

How and when do I apply?

Applications open in September each year. Auditions are usually in October. You can download an application form from our website or contact us with your details and we will post you a form.

How much do the courses cost?

Course fees can be found in the current season Course info.
In general we charge course fees at €50 per day, this can be subject to change depending on the funding we receive each year. Your €50 covers accommodation, meals and all transport (apart from buses on the first day – see below). All musical costs are subsidised.
Thanks to the generosity of NYOI Friends, we are offering several scholarships.

Where are rehearsals and how do I get there?

Residential courses are currently held at Kilkenny College, Kilkenny. On the first day we offer buses from Cork and Dublin however you must pay separately for these as they do not accommodate everyone.

Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?

No. All bed linens are provided at the residential venue. You do need to bring your own towel.

What standard do I need to be?

NYOI do not specify a standard that you must be to apply. Sight-reading at auditions is around grade 5 standard. It is preferable that you have some orchestral experience. Check out www.iayo.ie to find a regional youth orchestra near you.
